There are a lot of conventions that build the establishment from which comics rise.
Super hero comics lend themselves to many things, and physical confrontation has
endured the test of time, from the late 1930s, until now, at the threshold of
2006.
This blog will serve as an opportunity to look back on various stages
throughout, and enjoy the characterizations, and stages of each hero and
villains development. While looking at these battles, we will also hopefully
uncover some forgotten gems, and have an opportunity to enjoy the comics in
general.
To serve as a skeleton on which the meat of this website will be hung, there
will be mind paid to the success rate of each character. This will allow for a
vague ranking system, but as always no method is full proof. Please do not send
hate mail if you disagree.
For the sake of some extra fun, analysis will be made possible using The
Haseloff System.
Both Marvel and DC have popularised rating systems to gauge their character's abilities,
but rather than adhering to those usually general scales, I have done my best to
rank my own. Taking into account various character's unique strengths and
talents.
The Haseloff System
Each category is arranged into a scale of seven.
Strength 1 - Weakling 2 - Normal Human 3 - Trained Athlete 4 - Steroid Popper 5 - Super Strength 6 - Invincible 7 - Omnipotent | Intelligence 1 - Idiot 2 - Normal Human 3 - Straight A's 4 - Tactician 5 - Professor 6 - Genius 7 - Infinite Wisdom | Speed 1 - Slow 2 - Normal Human 3 - Trained Athlete 4 - Olympic Sprinter 5 - Super Speed 6 - Sound Speed 7 - Light Speed | Stamina 1 - Asthmatic 2 - Normal Human 3 - Strong Willed 4 - Athlete 5 - Marathon Runner 6 - Generator 7 - Unstoppable | ||||
Agility 1 - Clumsy 2 - Normal Human 3 - Acrobat 4 - Gymnast 5 - Cat-like 6 - Rubber 7 - Unlimited | Fighting Ability 1 - Dunce 2 - Normal Human 3 - Street Wise 4 - Trained Fighter 5 - Martial Artist 6 - Warrior 7 - Born Fighter | Energy Powers 1 - None 2 - Guns 3 - Explosives 4 - Arsenal 5 - Lasers 6 - Mass Destruction 7 - Solar Power |
As mentioned
previously, no method is truly full proof.
These are only a rough indication of the measure of a character's proven potential.
Fights will generally be chosen at random, and with any luck, semi-regularly.
Excelsior!
