SHIPPING LIST: SEPTEMBER 04, 2008
You can probably find complete shipping list updates on most major comics sites. Consider this an opportunity to either do all your info-shopping in the one place, or get a speculative perspective on what might be worth checking out. These are untested reads. Secret Wars on Infinite Earths can offer no guarantee or endorsement of quality. These are simply titles that may be of potential interest. Some items may ship late.

The Infinite Wars now has a gift shop!
Now you'll find Amazon purchase links to hardcovers, trade paperbacks, and other collections, not only on regular entries -- but also new releases at the bottom of the Shipping List, and now a whole catalogue of potential purchases via the Infinite Wars: Amazonian Gift Shop. [Men are also welcome!] By shopping with Amazon via our purchase links, you not only find yourself a great deal, but also sponsor future entries on the Infinite Wars.

The Deep Dish...
- JUL082262 AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #570 NWD $2.99
ARTWORK: Casey JonesOne wonders if it's been a steady decline in sales that prompted Spidey's full fledger submission into the Marvel Universe proper. Intervention of the Thunderbolts has brought with it the presence of sales-grabber Venom, who will sandwich the webslinger between himself, and inverted colour clone, Anti-Venom. I'm not really one to totally write a symbiote story off, but when Amazing is already limping along from the damage of One More Day, it's hard to really feel sympathetic toward a book resting on the crutches of repetitive storyarcs and late cameos. I'm reluctant to quote this as fact. It might be an entirely logical progression of reintroduction after launching a new concept, but... I can't seem to care.

- JUL080113 EL DIABLO #1 (OF 6) $2.99
A gorgeous cover kicks off this new mini boasting interior art from the established tag team of (penciller) Phil Hester and (inker) Ande Parks. Solicitations seem to suggest the introduction of a third iteration of the El Diablo character, but ye olde fans can rest assured, the tradition of DC legacy characters remains in tact, with Lazarus Lane a promised inclusion in the guard of the spooky outlaw. The Ghost Rider classic-esque concept enters the criminal underworld in a new era!

- APR080048 END LEAGUE #4 $2.99
Rick Remender - the latest industry chosen one - delivers his own version of the tried and true concept of a post-apocalyptic superhero future. Analogues of recognised Marvel and DC characters fill the cast, some more recognisable than others, like his version of mythological protagonist, Thor. Clearly not Watchmen; End League appears from the outside as a great read for the superhero enthusiast!

- JUL082287 IRON MAN GOLDEN AVENGER $2.99
???ARTWORK: Adi GranovIron Man battles a motley crew of losers in this oddly titled Marvel Adventures one-shot. Solicits name; Spymaster, Jolt, Plantman, and Blacklash as the foes in question, who will presumably play cannon fodder for a comic that seems conceptually hinged on a cover that recalls the movie hero. Sure, there's something about a shocking evil plot hatched by Pepper Potts, but really, this one's for the mass market, playing to the mainstream success of the Robert Downey Jr film. Hey, why not? It's the kind of thing that should probably be finding it's way to racks outside cinemas more often! And there's no reason not to give the Marvel Adventures line the benefit of the doubt, given that they seem to have a very competent grasp on family-friendly, classic superhero comics!

- JUL082298 MARVEL APES #1 (OF 4) $3.99
A slew of "Marvel Apes" variant covers have already burnt up any goodwill the series might have had (with this reader). Thematic gimmickery, much like the outward spiralling presence of Marvel Zombies and/or Secret Invasion Skrulls - to say nothing of a string of singular events (many found with mixed results in Marvel Adventures titles) - have overstayed their welcome. Comics like this assure the double-oh's won't escape the resentment felt for the nineties, highlighting the 'high-concept' negatives of the YouTube generation. Overblown memes might have been fun once, but the endless trough of robots, ninja, zombies, pirates, and primates has killed the joke(s).

- DEC072099 SAVAGE DRAGON #137 $2.99
Erik Larsen's long running independent continues it's celebration of themes from classic comics, this time channeling the politically charged propaganda comics. Savage Dragon - a former presidential candidate in his universe - is throwing his endorsement squarely behind Barack Obama! If you haven't at least shown interest in the prominent indie, this headline grabbing issue might be the time to give it a look!

- JUL080112 SECRET SIX #1 $2.99
Gail Simone and the Secret Six return for another mini-series!
Catman supposedly quit the ragtag team of supervillain misfits in the pages of Birds of Prey, but he appears front and centre on the numerically insufficient group, along with team icon, Deadshot! We hope it's a sales pitch more than a spoiler when we reveal Bane will take membership with the group, hopefully with the opportunity to return to character growth, along the lines of his alluded political interests in Checkmate. Still not convinced? Hey, if the works of Gail Simone are good enough for Jimmy, why not you?!

- JUN084287 STREET FIGHTER REMIX #0 $3.95
Week after week I've been combing the shipping lists with a rising sense of anticipation when hitting the S's of the independent list. Finally my hopes have been realised! After more than a year out of print, UDON's Street Fighter comics are returning for a new haul!
Remix #0 gives readers a chance to reaquaint themselves with the Street Fighter universe, touching on elements from the past, the upcoming SFIII generation of story, and a special glimpse of the Chun-Li Legends series that will precede the looming feature film!
The delay has largely been attributed to UDON's desire to build a backlog of completed art to avoid mid-series interruptions, so one would assume the release of Remix means this is the beginning of a new flood!

- JUL082343 SUB-MARINER DEPTHS #1 (OF 5) $3.99
Sub-Mariner seemingly continues to struggle to find his way to the spotlight in yet another mini-series completely removed from the character's many Marvel Universe ties. As if the Tsunami mini taught us nothing, Peter Milligan leads the charge for an out-of-continuity search for the mythic city of Atlantis.
The previous Namor series meandered far too often on boneheaded guest stars, so a new concept is certainly welcome. In fact, if Namor is to play the shadowy legend in this search series, the concept definitely has intrigue going for it, but as a rare opportunity to feature the character in the spotlight? It just doesn't feel balanced.
