With a mini-series on the horizon, I have to admit, I'm a little bit reticent about this one. Don't get me wrong! I have a curious affection for Solomon Grundy, but it might just be that fondness that fuels my reluctance. Of my favourite interpretations of the character, Jeph Loeb's version in Batman: The Long Halloween and Dark Victory, comes to mind - a lumbering behemoth of tragic aura, but mysterious origin. Like the Joker's history as Red Hood; I'm content to skirt the line between truth and mystery regarding the death of Cyrus Gold and the beginning of Solomon Grundy. That prospect, however, looks to be shattered by virtue of the nature of this series -- a quest to remove the mystique and possibly "cure" Grundy. Two prospects I'm not especially fond of -- even if Geoff Johns is behind them.- NOV082394 PUNISHER #1 DKR $3.99
Restarting the Punisher's adventures in the Marvel Universe so soon after the launch of War Journal seems tacky, but I suppose there are worse things. Overlapping with the fallout of Secret Invasion (and the introduction of Norman Osborn's "Dark K-Reign"), Punisher us out to off the big evil. Having procured a Skrull sniper rifle, Frank's got the Director of HAMMER in his sites, but it'll take the biggest contingency plan in his arsenal to deal with an interruption in the form of the Sentry! The highly unlikely showdowns are often the best, and where the Punisher is concerned, that goes double!- NOV080134 SECRET SIX #5 (FOE) $2.99
We haven't yet got ourselves a Gail Simone label tag, but do not dare consider that any assessment of her work! I finally got a chance to have a taste of Secret Six over the holidays, and ladies and gentlemen, it was spicy! Good spicy! Anyone tricked into following the book by the addition of Bane to the roster is bound to get a nasty shock -- right before they realise they've just signed up for an education in awesome!
