- DEC082364 DAREDEVIL #116 $2.99After leaving the United States in a self-imposed exile upon his release from prison; Wilson Fisk has been well out of everybody's hair since landing Matt Murdock in prison, and ordering the shot that clipped Aunt May, and brought about the ugliness of One More Day/Brand New Day. Ed Brubaker is joined by his Immortal Iron Fist collaborator, David Aja, for a story that looks likely to continue a reinvigoration for the title, which had slipped into a rut after the writer's first few arcs. Return of the King continues on from the Lady Bullseye saga.
- JAN092474 DEADPOOL #8 DKR $2.99On the one hand, this is most certainly a crossover that pits Deadpool against the combined might of Norman Osborn's Thunderbolts and Dark Avengers. On the other hand, this is still a comic book written by Daniel Way. Movie-goers might be looking to find an avenue to jump on the Deadpool bandwagon (after Hulk Vs, and before Wolverine), but buyer beware! The character's chequered past in comics lends itself to the bad, as much as the good. For a more fulfilling introductory experience, you might like to track down the Joe Kelly back issues, among others. Also don't expect the merc' with a mouth to have any more luck getting near Osborn than his skull-shirted vigilante counterpart, Punisher, who's also been on an obstacle-laden goose chase branching out of Dark Reign. Almost certainly hate the player(s), not the high concept!

This one might be a little bit out of my interest zones, but I've actually been quite fond of the super-size Hulk specials Marvel have been pumping out since the World War Hulk break period. Those keen to unravel the painful mystery behind the true identity of Rulk might be fooled into looking for answers in a story that returns to the future world of Maestro, but expect only cryptic tease, if even that. The real preview value here might be a return to the year 2099, ahead of more conceited efforts through stories like Brian Reed's April release, Timestorm.- JAN090213 SOLOMON GRUNDY #1 (OF 7) $2.99
Following on from the Faces of Evil special [reviewed previously] -- Solomon Grundy begins his seven day quest to unlock the curse of his many resurrections. Scott Kolins takes the solo reigns as writer/artist on the series, which kicks off with Green Lantern, Alan Scott, in tow, to aid the undead creature in his mission. A night "as black as the undead's blood" is coming, and Phantom Stranger seems to think it would be best if Solomon weren't around for it. The cat's out of the bag, and the Kryptonians are out of the bottle!The bottled city of Kandor has been let free, sending hundreds of thousands of super-powerful Kryptonians into the Earth who do not have the good ol' Southern upbringing of Clark Kent to steer them in the direction of truth, justice, and the American way. Solution? Ship them off to their own planet, of course! Superman checks in with New Krypton -- planet beyond the yellow sun -- to observe the rebirth of his homeworld, but not everyone is so welcoming. Those of you who campaigned long and hard for Zod as President? Congrats! He's here!
